Cracked Rear View is the debut studio album by Hootie & the Blowfish, a band formed by four University of South Carolina graduates. Originally starting as a cover band, they developed their own unique sound through extensive touring and gained a dedicated regional following. Released in 1994, Cracked Rear View showcases a driving pop sound with elements of Southern rock, soul, and country/R&B-styled vocal harmonies. The album features an insistent rhythm groove, shimmering soaring guitar work, and sweet vocal harmonies. It was a commercial success, certified at 16 million units by the RIAA.
