This year, we have introduced "The cycle of changes," a summer series dedicated to showcasing innovative startups in the circular economy.   Our goal is to bring attention to important issues in our society, and today, we focus on raising awareness about fast fashion - a business model that heavily relies on mass production, high sales volumes, and low prices, impacting our environment.   As we reviewed last year's finalists, it became evident that the fashion and textile industry is becoming a focal point of the Circular Economy movement. It’s disheartening to read about Renewcell’s challenges. The journey towards sustainability, especially in industries as vast and impactful as fashion, is fraught with complexities that are often underestimated. The point made by Claire Bergkamp about the necessity for the fashion industry to genuinely commit to greener alternatives is a stark reminder of the gap between aspirational sustainability and actionable change. It’s evident that without a unified shift in both mindset and investment — paralleled by supportive policy measures akin to those seen in the transition to electric vehicles — progress will remain stagnant. As entrepreneurs and innovators, we should consider this a call to action: to not only support startups like Renewcell by integrating sustainable materials into our products where possible, but also to advocate for the necessary infrastructure and government backing that can accelerate this shift.

This week I will be in Helsinki 🇫🇮 On Thursday I will be speaking at Scandinavian MIND Transformation Conference, exploring the future of fashion 👗 I love attending these thematic events, they are a nice complement to the more traditional startup/tech/investor conferences. One has the time and opportunity to gain broader insight into an industry and make deeper connections. Today’s guest is a changemaker in the sustainability space and a pioneer who is looking to round off the traditional 'linear model' of the fashion industry. Agnes Weber is the co-founder of MENDED, a startup that is at the forefront of this new era of circularity, providing an innovative, fun and convenient clothing repair, alteration and resale service. It’s what the company calls, “a better way to keep clothes in play”. After forging partnerships with several clothing companies, MENDED is also helping to knit together a closer relationship between brands and customers by offering dedicated services for some of Europe’s favourite denim brands, including Kings Of Indigo and MUD Jeans. 🧵 During our conversation we also talked about Agnes's unlikely path to becoming an entrepreneur, the benefit of accessing childlike inquiry and challenging the status quo, why the business adopted playfulness as a core value, the emotional connections we have to clothing and much more.
